I’m Happy For Kate Middleton, But Most News Is Bad News

Your Manhattan Voyeur has had it.

I’m totally stressed out from ducking and absorbing shocks over disasters, global and local that dimwit news people push into my face as they compete for ratings by sensationalizing strangers’ violent tragedies.

When I switch on the TV to catch something cheery like The Big Bang Theory or Seinfeld re-runs, I mute the sound as I channel surf.  Alas, I’m usually not fast enough to prevent words like grief and death toll from poisoning my brain.

I hereby declare a news fast–duration unspecified– such as was once advocated by Andrew Weill, health advocate and my former classmate at Philadelphia’s Wagner Junior High school.  This brilliant man said it just might cure the blues.

I don’t want to know from gut wrenching problems of sleazy personality-damaged celebrities splashed on TV screens in taxis and on mindless news shows as well as in the increasingly freaky pages of the New York Post and the Daily News.

I’m tired of being shell shocked by horrors like murder and hurricanes and mud slides.

Since the media won’t give me a break, I’m hereby taking one.

What we used to call soft news is the only news I will tolerate–but not for another week or two.

Okay, so I missed out on the instant good vibes of Kate Middleton’s production of an heir.  I heard about it from friends soon afterward.

Stephen Colbert said that he’s happy for them, but wondered how much he can rejoice in the good fortune of the idle rich.

Can someone recommend blogs or periodicals or news shows that report only good news? Good news about middle class people?

Please. Please. Please.
